A class that charges from afar and hits up close, well, on paper

The Furtif is finished on paper: nine mobs, a hull, an approach charge. Then I ran the bot to check and it told me a different story.

I built an entire class and it took me more than a day. The Furtif: nine mobs, a squad theme, a gem, a hull, five satellites. It all holds together, well, on paper. Its unique mechanic: an approach charge. Basically you charge far from the mobs and when you get close you have a short window to deal damage. Then again, it’s just on paper.

The charge never fires, or fires all the time

So I ran the bot, to find out whether the mechanic triggers at least once for real. And in the end it depends on the theme, not in a good way. On Batterie the bot never gets within eight units of a shooter, so the charge never opens, ZERO windows in two minutes. On Infiltration it’s the opposite, there’s a window every two seconds while the charge takes four seconds to fill, so they open almost empty. On Déni it’s in between, it fires a little without ever mattering. Basically the charge doesn’t go off when you approach the mobs, it goes off when the mobs approach you. The tuning is wrong, the stock is wrong, honestly… nothing works!

Two things you should know anyway

None of this is in a build, so you can’t play it. And I haven’t played it myself yet, the bot measures but it doesn’t play the mechanic (it doesn’t pull away to come back). It just says how many times the charge fired, not whether it feels right. That, we’ll know by playing, not before.

What’s next

I’ll redo the tuning (the distance threshold, the minimum stock), then play it for real. The Furtif will land in a build when the charge makes you want to get close, not before. If you want to see how it goes in the meantime, it gets told on the Discord. And if a class that vanishes speaks to you, tell me what you’d want it to do.
